Every ViberNet connection includes a Wi-Fi 6 router, installed and configured by our field team. But where the router sits and how your devices connect to it decide how much of your plan's speed actually reaches your phone or laptop. This guide covers the setup choices that matter most.
Placement beats everything else
- Put the router in the room where you use the internet most — not in the hallway cabinet where the fiber enters the house.
- Keep it elevated (on a shelf, not the floor) and in open air. Cupboards, metal surfaces, and aquariums absorb or reflect the signal.
- Every wall between you and the router costs speed. Concrete and brick walls in Kashmiri homes are thick — one floor or two walls is the practical limit for full speed.
2.4 GHz vs 5 GHz — use the right band
Your router broadcasts two networks. The 5 GHz band is much faster but has shorter range; the 2.4 GHz band is slower but travels further and through walls better. Connect TVs, consoles, and work laptops to 5 GHz when they are in the same room or one room away. Devices at the far end of the house are often better on 2.4 GHz.
Five settings worth checking
Change the default Wi-Fi password
Use a long passphrase you can remember. Never leave the sticker password unchanged if the sticker is visible to visitors.
Name the two bands differently
For example "Home" and "Home-5G" — so you always know which band a device is on.
Enable WPA2 or WPA3 security
Our routers ship with this enabled. If you ever reset the router, verify it hasn't fallen back to an open network.
Set up the guest network
Give visitors the guest network instead of your main password. It keeps your devices isolated from theirs.
Reboot monthly
A 30-second power cycle once a month clears memory fragmentation and keeps the router snappy.
Big house? Ask about mesh.
If a single router can't cover your home, we install mesh Wi-Fi extenders that create one seamless network. Call +91 9186 103 794 or raise a ticket and our team will assess your layout.
